Wood's American Gothic painting is one of the most familiar images in 20th-century American art and painted at 5 Turner Alley in Cedar Rapids. 2016 was the 125th Anniversary of Grant Wood's birthday and to celebrate the milestone, Black Earth Gallery and the Cedar Rapids Visitors Bureau spearheaded the public art event. Artists were paired with sponsoring businesses and organizations to create unique designs for 26 whimsical American Gothic themed statues. Statues were on view for the public to seek out and from May through September 2016. While Overalls All Over: A Grant Wood Experience officially ended in September 2016, many of the American Gothic themed statues are still on public display.
